Demi Lovato had a special someone in her corner during a "rough" time of her life.

The "Confident" singer, 33, sat down for a new cover story interview with Who What Wear where she shared how her musician husband Jordan "Jutes" Lutes, 34, bonded while working on her album Holy Fvck, which she described as the "most healing" album she has put out in her career, per People.

They met in January 2022 to write a few songs together for the record and became fast friends. Lovato, who has been vocal about her mental health struggles and substance abuse issues in the past, explained that she "opened up to him because [she] was going through a really rough time" while making the album.

"I opened up to him because I was going through a really rough time when I made Holy Fvck," she said, adding, "I had just come out of treatment, and I was newly sober and raw with my emotions. I had nothing to medicate with."

She shared that Jutes, at the point still just a good friend, was there for her when she needed it and helped her "get through this deep depression [she] was in."

Lovato explained how she ended up feeling "safe" with her now-husband while they were making her song "Happy Ending," which she admitted is "probably one of the most vulnerable songs I've ever made."

"I didn't know we were going to become lovers," she said. "I definitely didn't know that we were going to get married one day. But that was the session that made me feel safe with him."

The "Sorry Not Sorry" hitmaker admitted that her relationship with Jutes came when she least expected it, but it has been a gift from the universe after putting in the work on getting herself to a better place.

"The universe rewards you when you do the therapeutic work on yourself, [and] I had to do the work. Because of that, the universe provided," she said. "I got myself ready for a life by myself, and then I was able to share it with somebody else."

She continued, "I'm really happy. I told my husband today, 'I've never been more in love with you. I didn't know my love could grow for you more so than it already has.' The timing was perfect."

Jutes and Lovato got engaged in December 2023 and tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in Santa Barbara, California, in May 2025 that was described as "pure magic."
