Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie finalized their divorce in December 2024, eight years after calling their relationship quits.
Pitt, who had yet to comment on divorce proceedings from his Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-star, recently told GQ that it "wasn't that major."
"No, I donāt think it was that major of a thing. Just something coming to fruition. Legally."
Upon legally finalizing their split, Jolie's lawyer, James Simon, told Page Six that the Maria actress spent the majority of the last decade focusing on her family and her peace.
"More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time, she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family."
Jolie, who shares children Maddox, 23,Ā Pax, 21,Ā Zahara, 19,Ā Shiloh, 18,Ā Knox,Ā andĀ Vivienne, 16, with Pitt, got candid about her biggest "pet peeve" less than a week after their divorce was finalized, explaining to W Magazine that she is not a fan of liars.
"My pet peeve is somebody who is a liar. Somebody who feels a need to not say the truth or what they want, what they feel. There's a big version of that ā and I'm not trying to be heavy about it ā but people who say one thing and mean another, who aren't completely who they are. I think a lot of people don't say what they mean."
In 2024, the former pair's second eldest daughter, Shiloh, legally dropped "Pitt" from her last name. Maddox, Zahara, and Vivienne have also chosen to omit the latter half of their surname from legal and public-facing documents. The Fight Club actor reacted to his children's choices to change their names, calling their actions "a symbol of a deeper estrangement that has been brewing for years."
He also shared that he hopes to "forge a bond with the kids as they get older and have a life of their own."
