Welcome to a new era of Imagine Dragons starring Dan Reynolds, Daniel Wayne Sermon, Ben McKee, and their latest single, "Eyes Closed." The brand new "future-facing" anthem premiered on iHeartRadio on Wednesday (April 3), inviting fans into a courageous new world of self-love and resilience in tackling life's many road blocks.
The single blends multiple genres together to create one lyrical masterpiece highlighting confidence as the key to admiring who you are amid banishing demons that constantly hold you back. Reynolds, the band's lead singer, has been very open about his struggle with mental health since rising to stardom. The standout sings about ascending from turmoil to exude newfound conviction in "Eyes Closed."
The music video opens with Reynolds covered in sand as everything around him crumbles. He immediately stands up and faces the music to signify that while hardships are life-altering, the feelings that arise from these "set backs" can be used as building blocks towards empowerment.
Fans were on the edge of their seats days before the highly-anticipated release as the GRAMMY-award winning icons teased its debut with a puzzling post. On March 27th, a photo was shared to Imagine Dragon's Instagram page that depicted Reynolds under a single spotlight with his back turned to viewers. The mysterious photo, next to a cryptic caption that read: "soon," left fans both confused and excited for what was to come.
Just one day before the new single was released, the band shared a video of Reynolds saying "I can do this with my eyes closed" amid large statues and piles of sand that fans now recognize as the official music video (shared in tandem with the single).
